| Following the departure of its original rhythm section, Canadian alt-metal supergroup Saint Asonia brought in Art of Dying bassist Cale Gontier and Staind drummer Sal Giancarelli to complement its core duo of frontman Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace) and lead guitarist Mike Mushok (Staind). The reconfigured quartet picked up where its previous edition left off and hit the studio with producer/engineer Brian Sperber to record their follow-up album. Like its 2015 self-titled predecessor, 2019s Flawed Design pairs thick, punishing grooves with technical acumen and strong melodicism to create a heavy but cinematic sound. ~ Timothy Monger |
